persons including actress sharon tate
were found dead at the home of miss
tate
and her husband screen director roman
polyansky one of the most famous stars
in hollywood history is deadhollywood today the show business
capital of the world with the bright
lights the celebrities
the movie studios and all the tourist
attractions that are known across the
world
but it wasn't always that way in the
mid-1800s
all that stood in hollywood california
was a small adobe
by the 1880s hollywood was a small
village consisting
of a few homes funded by h.j whitley and
his wife
dieda wilcox whom are both referred toas the mother and father of hollywood
in the early 1900s hollywood comprised
of a village of around
500 people and at this point no movies
had ever been made in the city as movies
were made in the east coast
however in 1910 a movie titled in old
california was filmed entirely in
hollywood
making it the first movie to ever be
produced there

only one year later in 1911 the very
first movie studio appeared on sunsetboulevard by 1915 most film studios had
relocated from the east coast to
hollywood
due to sunny california having the ideal
weather for shooting
patents held by thomas edison and his
motion picture patents company in the
east coast
was another reason for the relocation to
the west coast
so that filmmakers could avoid being
sued for infringement
and hence the dawn of tinseltown
hollywood brilliant tinsel city oflights and fantasy
hollywood glorified glittering
fascinating fabulous mythical kingdom
hollywood the glamour capital of the
World

the time of hollywood's golden era was
pivotal for the growth in film
once sound arrived in motion picture
nobody could compete with hollywood's
movies
there were five major film studios that
dominated the industry in the golden era
some of whom are around to this daythese were mgm
paramount warner brothers 20th century
fox and rko
mgm were considered the biggest
Company
in the 1930s as they spared no expense
when it came to filmmaking
mgm are responsible for the world
renowned the wizard of oz
when the great depression hit in the 30s
believe it or not
hollywood's film industry was thriving
at this point
it was cheaper to go to the cinema thango to a play or a concert
watching a movie was an escape from
reality for the public
and the hollywood film industry
capitalized on this as the major film
studios released more movies than the
1920s and 30s
than any other decade around 800 per
year
today there are less than 500 created
per year
the next step for movies was the
introduction of color the first process
of color in hollywood was an extremelylong process
to get any color they'd have to
individualy hand tint
each frame after a while engineers found
an easier process that is known as
toning
toning is when they bathe the film stock
in a singular color dye
to fit the mood of the scene they'd
color an entire scene red to represent
violence or they'd use blue to represent
Sorrow
in the 1920s most films were using
tinting and toningor a combination of both although this
was a big step within film the colors
looked artificial in 1922 technicolor
was introduced with a light splitting
beam camera the light carried
through the camera would split into
different wavelengths that would go
into different directions to produce two
film negatives they were cemented
together
and played through a regular projector
to produce colored film
over the next decade technicolor
expanded into a three color processthe camera would record the original
image into three separate negatives
red green and blue and by 1932 the
results from this were incredible
wizard of oz and the adventures of robin
hood are two movies that use
technicolor as well as animated movies
SUch as snow white
the technicolor process partially
remained the same until the introduction
of digital video in the 21 st century
movies have come a long way since the
golden era the majority of us can record
high quality footagewith color and sound with just the touch
of a button on our smartphones
(Music
the hollywood sign perhaps one of the
most recognizable
attractions in the world with a plethora
of history behind it the sign was
originally put up on mount lee in
hollywood in 1923.
it was erected by los angeles times
publisher harry chandler as an
advertisement for his new housing real
estate development
situated above the hollywood districtthe sign initially read as hollywood
land
but was then altered in later years it
Cost chandler 21 000
to create which seems a frivolous
amount
for the legendary structure it has
become
however 21 000 in the 1920s is
equivalent to more than 280 000 in 2020
making it one of the most expensive
billboards of its time
since the sign was purely an
advertisement it was planned to stay up
for a year and a half but the residentsof hollywood
loved it and it became a part of their
culture which is why it was never taken
down
due to the great depression maintenance
was not kept on the hollywood land sign
and it began to deteriorate in the 1940s
the sign was neglected which resulted in
the age collapsing and left fallen for
five years
then in 1947 after years of neglect in
the city not willing to put up money
into the upkeep of the sign
they decided it was time to tear it downthe land of the hollywood land sign was
torn down as the city wanted the sign to
represent.
