Elite dangerous combat
with the update 13 for elite dangerous
odyssey finally the conclusion of this
SO-called azimuth saga has come and
indeed it is
spectacular the alien race known as
targoids are turning the tables on the
humanity and boy oh boy there isa big
hole on a planet
[Music]
finally after a little bit of build up
after a year and alittle bit developers
finish out the so-called azimuth saga
which was the build up to content for
odyssey that they wanted to release
regarding to targos the alien threat
that comes from the deep as the update
went live and you would log in you would
see this cinematic of what happened
during the proteus wave launch theanti-zeno weapon that humanity has
been
developing throughout the azimuth saga
storyline and as it turns out the weapon
turns on ourselves or was it targoids
that did that well either which case the
result is interesting a one whole system
now completely toxic to anything that is
guardian related except for ax weaponry
that is the guardian module
reinforcements guardian weapons or
anything like that is always corroded
immediately upon arrival within the
system this is unprecedented and the
whole thing is quite exciting and even i
have to admit that this is probably one
of the most exciting times for the story
of elite dangerous though in my mind it
still cannot beat that first moment when
the targoids appeared for real in thehigh predictions those old truly
scripted cinematic-looking in-game
Scenes yes they were not really dynamic
like the current ones but i still like
those old ones a lot more however with
the update question is what new
gameplay
features and things did they introduce
with this update aside from just frankly
speaking looking cosmetic stuff and of
cOurse that one system being super
ruined can we go down to that planet and
investigate that exploded targoid base
or perhaps there's a new targoid coming
in like we predicted with the titan
targoid event and other sensor modules
that were in the data dumps are they
here
well sadly none of that is here yet
currently from the planet from which theproteus wave was launched you cannot
land because it is artificially locked
by some unknown permit lock or other
hazardous so you can't go there and to
make the system even more deadly
developers made it toxic to the guardian
weaponry weaponry that is the most
useful against these targets forcing us
to either run or use our own human
designed anti-zeno weaponry but
unfortunately we have to talk about
elite dangerous odyssey and the fact
that this is for elite dangerous odyssey
rather than horizons even though
developers say they will put parts of it
in there once that 4.0 comes out for
horizon that is the base game throughout
the last year or at least the first half
of it after the launch developers workepretty hard to at least bring it up to
acceptable level of play even though it
still is not and over time it was
notable that developers started slowing
down tremendously and now especially if
you look at the trailer
well it feels like it's done on the
cheap side especially the trailer
because before this these basically were
the trailers sometimes that the frontier
developments released but the new one
well it includes a little bit of cg and
the pre-rendered stuff most of it really
is in-game footage with some over and i
think im not too far off by saying the
development team for odyssey going
from
hundred developers throughout the whole
elite dangerous team has shrunk
tremendously and sadly this was the besttrailer just works here or the gameplay
as a matter of fact
and here we have to talk about the
actual gameplay of course within this
one system the hip22460
race is not gonna be allowed so you have
to use the old tech until something new
perhaps is developed as we have
indicated in data dumps and leaks before
but the gameplay itself is just still
shooting the same targoids over and over
again there is still no on foot targoid
fighting or anything like that there's
no titan target or a mother ship coming
in as was indicated in the data dumps
and while this is most likely a setup
for a bigger gameplay soon in the future
as is right now it's just a cosmeticalevent in game though the problem here
comes from the modus operandi of the
company and the development team in
the
past this development team has refused
to use quests or any kind of a way to do
a quest line a follow-up mission series
through which the player would learn or
do something unique or experience
something regardless of event time and
another caling card of this development
team is whenever something really cool
happens they write up a big article and
then just spawn the results not the
event itself in game for us to maybe see
sometime and the same thing happened
here this big event happened in the
video not in the game and that's frankly
speaking kinda sad a missed opportunityfor something amazing what im basically
saying is that the elite dangerous
management specifically doesn't know
how
to deliver a good narrative and the lore
Overall learning from their own peers in
the market say world of warcraft with
quests where you can replay an old
mission or some sort of a historical
event teaching the player about the
game's universe and the world while also
engaging them with wonderful gameplay
Sometimes even with unique and cool
rewards fact of the matter is elite
dangerous is possibly one of the best
experiences as a space game hell even
just as a game alone it is incredibly
immersive and yet it strays away from
anything that would draw the player
