The story of the Atlanta braves
Hey guys it's Dan package here with
another episode of historical teaching
today's episode will be about another
MLB franchise the Atlanta Braves lI hope
y'all enjoy and now let's get into this
unlike the diam backs from the last
episode the history of the Atlanta
Braves to see far longer one so Il be
more focused on key events rather than
doing the year by year overview as I did
with the time backs the history of the
Atlanta Braves starts way back in 1870
in Cincinnati Ohio in Cincinnati there
was a professional baseball team called
the Red Stockings
after a few years of playing decided to
dissolve after the 1870 baseball season
due to the dissolving of the team some
people were left without a job or a
hobby after the Cincinnati Red Stockings
dissolved some players joined the newly
forming Boston Red Sox in Boston
Massachusetts at the south end grounds
which would play in the National
players which would be in action from
1871 through 75 during that period the
Red Stockings where the dynasty of the
league as they won four of the five
championships the league held in 1876
the NA P BB which was the league's
name
abbreviated ceased and the Red
Stockings
team during this transition in leaguesthe Red Stockings became commonly
known
as the red caps as the Cincinnati Red
Stockings came back into existence the
same year as a charter team for the
National League during the period of
1877 through 1901 the red caps who
became renamed as the Boston
Beaneaters
yes what a fantastic name in 1883
dominated the National League winning
eight pennants and also had an powerful
1890 18 that one aim amazingly 102 and
47
this period of dominance would come
crashing down in 1901 however as the
new
American League introduced another
team
in Boston the still standing Red Sox who
were called the Boston Americans until
1908 for a pretty trivial reason they
didn't become the Red Sox until the
Beaneaters stopped using Red Sox in
their unit most of the towns of the
Beaneaters had was lured away to the
Americans due to the fact that the
Americans offered far bigger contracts
and the Beaneaters decided to offer the
truth was the Beaneaters didn't even
offer contracts for the players because
they thought that the loyalty would have
kicked in but instead the players left
and taking their talent with them the
loss of their talent hit them hard as
the period from 1900 to 1913 was a
ghastly one as they only had one winning
season the out of those thirteen years1908 for a pretty trivial reason they
didn't become the Red Sox until the
Beaneaters stopped using Red Sox in
their unit most of the towns of the
Beaneaters had was lured away to the
Americans due to the fact that the
Americans offered far bigger contracts
and the Beaneaters decided to offer the
truth was the Beaneaters didn't even
offer contracts for the players because
they thought that the loyalty would have
kicked in but instead the players left
and taking their talent with them the
loss of their talent hit them hard as
the period from 1900 to 1913 was a
ghastly one as they only had one winning
season the out of those thirteen years
also in six of those season they lost
over 800 games out of the 162 they
played this also marked a period in
which they were sold three times in the
span of five years the team was first
sold in 1907 to George and John Davi
who
named the team after some after
themselves as the boss of doves the
team
was then sold again in 1911 to william
hepburn russell who renamed the team
the
boston rustlers
(Music]
the team was then sold again the year
after to a group led by James Gaffney
and renamed to the Boston Braves after
those years of hardship the Bray'sfinally had success again in 1914 they
started the season pitifully slow before
starting back midseason and taking the
NL pennant from the New York Giants
they
went into the 1914 World Series as heavy
underdogs to the Philadelphia Athletics
somehow they ended up sweeping the
A's
playing al their home games infinitely
Park the home of the Red Sox as their
normal home the south and grounds was
far too small for the crowds due to the
success in the World Series Gaffney was
inspired to build Braves field which the
team would move into in 1915 after their
World Series win and their movement in
their move the team was competitive only
in 1915 and 60 after 1916 the team went
on a terrible period of losses as they
went from 1917 through 1932 withoutwinning seasons in that period in 1923
they were sold to Emil Fuchs which was
just about the midpoint of this
terribleness in 1933 and 1934 the team
began to get a new bout of life as they
began to compete once again in 1935 the
Braves made a deal with the New York
Yankees to get people one and only Babe
Ruth they succeeded gaining ruth as a
player as well as he as an assistant
manager vice president and he would get
a gain of the profits or so it seemed
the 1935 season spiraled out of control
as Ruth's health began to deteriorate
pitchers threatened striking if he was
in the lineup and he found out that
Fuchs had tried to finesse him lying
about managing and earning profits due
to this Ruth retired on June 1st 1935
leaving a team that would end at 38 and
115 the second worst in national league
histor.
