The story of the Akira

animated films in history released in

1988 it opened the doors for mature

Japanese animation in North America

and

is still remembered by many as one of

the best anime of all time the film is a

two-hour adaptation of a 2,000 page

manga so the first viewing of this flm

might be a bit disorienting due to the

lightning quick pacing and short amount

of time to introduce side characters and

subplot elements so let's try to make

sense of this where'd the teacher go -

what about my burning desire to study

and learn of up a ship we'll drag his

butt in here the film takes place in

2019 30 years after Tokyo was

devastated

by an explosion during World War 3 we

are painted a grim picture of the future

the art direction using gritty tones 

constant conflict the soundtrack is also

dark to match the imagery but at the

same time

strangely upbeat mirroring the action

on-screen violence runs rampant we

follow a bike gang as they chase a bunchof clowns through near Tokyo no really

like actual clowns the action here is

frantic and well animated the brutality

of each blow being shown in full which

gives you a taste of what you're in for

mid-action we cut to a man leading a

strange looking young boy by the hand as

they are chased and confronted by the

military

a young woman looks on as the man is

shot down and the boy escapes

directly into the path of one of the

bikers named Tetsuo

the military retrieved the

strange-looking boy

along with Tetsuo leaving the rest of

the gang led by a boy named cañedo to

be

processed by the local police along with

a young woman who witnessed the

events

she blows often 8 his attempts to flirt

crew-cut tucks politics with mr. clean

here and meets with dr. wily to talk a

bunch of [LJabout Tetsuo having some

kind of obscure connection with

something called akhira this might be a

good time to remind you that this movie

is based on a really long and complexmanga which pretty much every anime

nerd

on the internet will tell you is like a

million times better than the film I

haven't read it but it's safe to assume

it probably gives some of these

characters names and you know reasons

for being here anyway the next day in

school the members of the gang are

reprimanded as Tetsu escapes from the

military and finds his girlfriend Kaori

stealing canada's bike they don't get

very far and are followed by the clown

gang who violently attacked the pair are

saved by the rest of the gang but Tetsuo

begins to suffer from a severe headache

and hallucinations he is retrieved by

the military and the gang has the bikes

taken afterwards the gang is hanging out

feeling defeated without their bikes

when an explosion goes off nearby

cañedo

notices the girl from the police station

earlier running from the scene and

follows assisting or escaping from the

police we flashed Tetsu as fever dreams

and a dark prediction from another

strange looking child the military'sholding we are shown that the military

has been storing something underground

named Akira the girl whose name is K

turns out to be part of some kind of

anti-government resistance their plan to

invade the lab where Tetsu was being

held looking for information cañedo

explains his situation and that his

friend is being held in that lab random

resistance member number 2 talks to rat

dude here at booth the growing religion

behind Akira Pina said here consults a

council consisting of Larry King mr.

clean Jay jonah Jameson Rat Man and

several other old people who have been

given names from what I can gather there

what's left of Japan's government

basically they don't trust him and feel

the Akira project is wasteful they

inform him of an investigation into the

military's actions

as he storms off pist Canada and their

resistance group infiltrate the buildingyou know what it's just better if | let

you guys watch this one yourself

kids turns out it was just the weird

looking kids [_] with them for no

good reason

oh ho she had

SO yeah Tetsuo begins to develop some

pretty potent psychic powers meanwhile

Canada and company are attacked by

bears

on hovertbikes cañedo stealing one with

care and heading toward katsuo who was

busy killing everyone in his pattern he

confronts the weird looking kids and

learns about the existence of a cure for

cañedo makes it to Tetsuo

but Tetsuo seems to have gone mad with

power and leaves to seek out akira which

is located at the olympic state

meanwhile cueball here is relief of duty

the orders is men to arrest the

committee running Japan's Tetsuo stops

by the gangs old carded picking up drugsand killing a few people including one

of his friends from the gang named yama

brat dude is caught up in the pootatuck

he is approached by random resistance

member number two again who he shoes

as

he frantically tries to fit some

seemingly important files into his

briefcase in any way he dies due to a

heart attack and he never learned what

his deal is good sub-block the tools

power is growing more and more at this

point not even the military can stand up

to him as his power grows the religious

sakura fallen begins to rally behind him

Tetsuo doesn't show much compassion

as

he kills the military and his followers

alike he is given a warning not to let

his power control him but he ignores
