The story of the Rocky balbao
After rocky 5 nobody could have ever
imagined a rocky 6 and stallone denied
any plans for it
in the 90s the series was laid to rest
but during the first half of the 2000s
it became apparent
that things change ideas mature and it
ain't over till it's over
what's that from the 80s that's probably
the 70s
as soon as rocky 6 was announced it
immediately became the subject of
ridicule and parody
i have to admit i was skeptical as
anyone was but at the same timei was
thrilled to be able to see a new rocky
on the big screen and with an adult
perspective
one minor disappointment is that up to
now every rocky movie began with a
from the last movie it was like a
tradition but noW
he throws it out the window and calls it
rocky balboa so it could stand on its
own
it's as if stallone was spitting out
rocky 5 like a bad taste in his mouth
he even shows flashbacks from all the
movies except five
as the movie begins adrian is dead which
brings rocky back to basics
he's also growing distant from his son
now played by milo ventimiglia
who's caught up in his own work and
sOcial life having his son work in one
of the new
modern buildings in philadelphia is no
coincidence it's an appropriate choiceso rocky opens a restaurant in
dedication to his late wife and spends
the rest of his time wandering around
his old stomping grounds
reflecting on the good old times not
like he didn't already do that in rocky
5
but according to stalone that movie
never happened
anyway it's difficult to start a movie
emotional right off the bat
but it works because the canon of the
series if you have any nostalgia for the
rocky movies it draws you in right away
you feel sentimental the same way he
does so it totally puts you in the
character's place
bert young as always is fantastic as the
bitter brother-in-law paulie
you're living backwards rocco change the
channel from yesterday
tony burden's back is duke and is just
as great as ever
every time you hit him with his shot
it's got to feel like he tried kissing
the express train
yeah let's start building some hurting
bombs
and charlene hughes is very natural and
lovable as marie from the first movie
it's kind of disturbing if you think
back to the first movie what does he ask
her
hey you've got a boyfriend now okay
well there is a romantic overtone but
it's downplayed a lot and she brings him
a picture of adrianclearly stating that rocky is still
committed to adrian and that nobody can
replace her
so back to the plot when a
computer-generated fight is staged
between rocky and the current
heavyweight champion mason dixon
people get curious and rocky decides to
go back to fighting which his son
disapproves of
in the same way the audience disapprove
rocky hasnt stepped in the ring since
rocky iv
which was 20 years ago everything about
retiring no you think about it
yeah well im officially retired now
i should uh step down
maybe and retire
excuse me my husband is retired he has
nothing
he's nothing more than happy are you
gonna retire or not
now 16 years later there's no mention of
the bad eye or the brain damage and he's
stepping back into the ring
i'm only giving you this little history
to put you in perspective of how
unlikely it seemed that rocky 6 would
ever see him fighting again
in fact many people ignorantly dismisssoros how do you feel about that
don't you think you're too you know old
yeah stallone is not pretending to be
young and the age factor is actually a
big part of the movie in fact it's the
main driving power
yeah buti ain't interested in getting
like mangled and embarrassed here
the same way that the first movie was
about an underdog trying to rise up
this movie is about a has been trying to
make a comeback and ignoring the
laughter
those around him realizing that life is
it's profound as well as it's depressing
but ultimately
it picks you up and makes you feel good
in the end
[Music]
let's face it why do sequels get made
because the first one was successful
but this is a movie that fills a 16-year
gap it wasn't made to ride on the
SUCceSS
it was made because stallone reallywanted to make this movie and he put
genuine feelings into it
it came from the heart not from the
money-grubbing hands of a studio
executive in fact he didn't even have an
easy time getting this movie made
i just never knew it was supposed to be
this hard the scene where he argues to
get his boxing license back
i again believe is no coincidence he's
relaying his real-life
experiences into this movie often
constructing them into passionate
monologues
i mean maybe some of you guys got
something you never finished something
you really want to do some something
you
never said to somebody something
one last thing that disappointed me was
that there's no music by survivor
rocky and survivor go together like
bread and butter in rocky
ii there is eye to tiger and rocky four
there's burning hearts
[Music]
their music carries the passion vibe
that make the series so great and they
hadn't released an album in about 19.
